Hey there! Do you enjoy writing or are interested in bettering your writing skills so that you can write for money? In this post, I'll discuss common strategies and tactics for improving your writing overall so that you can make money writing regularly.

I started writing stories when I was in third grade. I still have a few of them, and I'll add that they were quite terrible! That said, I enjoyed using my childhood imagination to come up with characters and scenarios to put them through. I wrote my first novel-length manuscript in high school, though I never did anything with it.

I wrote two novel-length manuscripts in college, one of which I published over a decade later, the other which may be published in the future. The published novel is Persona Jeremy, which is about a high school teen boy who struggles with fragmented personalities. 1. Write Daily

When most people start out writing, they make common errors, such as with spelling and grammar, but even harder to catch are errors with the actual writing style. This can include writing generic and boring content or writing weak arguments that don't make good points or refute the opposite side of the debate.

When you want to be a freelance writer and make money freelance writing, it's important that you can accurately describe your point or create a juxtaposition between two concepts.

Content writers have to possess an intricate writing style if they want to earn money as a writer. Writers earning high pay often write sales copy or other convincing copy that drives revenue to the company they write for. A writer who is a blogger, for example, must write compelling blog posts to generate revenue. The best blog posts sell products and services.

One way to track your consistency with writing is to use Grammarly, which will correct spelling, grammar, and check for writing style issues, such as tone of voice, confidence level, formality, and more. This blog would be nowhere without Grammarly – honestly, my grammar is pretty awful!

2. Solicit Feedback

Whether you want to make money writing part-time or full-time, you'll need to solicit feedback from others about your writing. There are many ways to do this.

If you know a professional writer, you could either pay them or do something for them in exchange for feedback on your own writing. A professional writer need not be a famous author or blogger. They could be anyone who is paid to write and has regular gigs.

Another way to solicit feedback is to simply ask people who are interested in your topic. If you write fiction, for example, ask your friends to read your work. Brutal feedback can be tough, but you need to hear it. The only way to be a good writer is to hear how good some of your writing is or what needs improvement.

By improving what isn't working, you'll have more consistent and better writing. Grammarly helps with this as it helps you make your writing consistent based on your target audience.

3. Read More to Get an Idea of What Works

When you're looking to improve your writing so that you can write for money, it pays to read and read a lot. Check out blogs, magazines, books, of whatever your niche is. For example, say you're like me, and you're a personal finance blogger, and you want to start a blog either as a side hustle or as a full-time gig. You want to make money writing by writing articles and posts every week.

I can appreciate that – that's exactly what I do. So, what got me started, in brief? I read many other personal finance blogs and got an idea of what topics would be interesting to talk about or to expand upon. I also saw topics that don't work, and those posts appeared to get fewer hits and/or fewer comments.

Grammarly is something many successful bloggers use. When you don't have an editor, you need a reliable tool to correct any and all errors that you have when you write posts. This is incredibly important if you're going to write guest posts on either other blogs or on sites that pay.

Grammarly is also great for writing content on social media. When you're promoting yourself, you must have as close to a perfect writing style as possible for your audience. Grammarly helps with that.

4. Outline Before You Write

Outlining your writing beforehand will help you write higher quality content, which will help you earn money via more traffic and engagement. For example, I write headings before I write a single word of each post. I may update the headings after I've written the post, but before I get started with each post, I write headings and notes in each heading.

As a blogger, I target keywords for SEO so that more people can find my content. Much of my headers outline target search terms, whereas some of it alerts a reader where in a post they can find the information they're looking for.

When writing books, outline each chapter. I've written two fiction books and two non-fiction books, and I have found the best way to stay organized and on topic is first to create a Table of Contents and then fill in section names. After all of your chapter and section names are figured out, only then should you start writing content.

5. Rework All of Your Writing

When you want to write for money, you want to put out only your best content, and your best content is that of the ones you work and rework constantly. Most people can't write killer content on their first attempt. After you've written an article, post, or chapter, re-read it and go back and do edits and polishing. Grammarly is amazing for editing and polishing.

To rework your writing, first, review your overall topic for your post or chapter. Then, check with your outline to ensure that you hit on each key point that you wanted to make. Next, look at any arguments or points that you made in your writing and ensure that they are backed by facts and data and not mere opinion unless opinions are all that's warranted.

Once you've determined that your arguments are strong and your points are valid, continue checking for spelling and grammar errors and any types of weaknesses in your writing. When you use the paid version of Grammarly, the tool will point out these issues based on what type of audience you tell it you're delivering to.

6. Brush Up on Spelling, Grammar, and Writing Style

Brushing up on your spelling, grammar, and writing style definitely falls into the “write everyday” category, but more specifically, you'll want to gain a mastery of the language. This doesn't mean you need to be perfect, but you'll need to create compelling content and understand how to form arguments and solid points.

Think about a freelance writer wanting to make money online as a copywriter for an advertising company. The advertising company may offer big money for the copywriter to write a compelling ad for them. That compelling ad could, in turn, earn the advertising company a million-dollar sale or sales.

A blogger may need to write a compelling affiliate product post to get paid for their article by selling that product. A poorly written article that lacks substance or has the writing style of a high school student will likely have trouble selling anything to most people.

7. Use a Tool Like Grammarly

Grammarly has both a free and a paid version that will help you write compelling content for your target audience. While many writing checkers merely check spelling and grammar, Grammarly also checks other key points such as confidence, tone of voice, wordiness, formality, clarity, and much more.
